In Summary

By throughhim413 • June 2, 2009

The summaries are finally complete.

I’m happy to finally announce that the translation is moving into its final stages. Only the skits remain untranslated. Translating the skits will not be a easy task, but every little step puts us closer to completion. The goal is still to complete the project by late summer, but only if we are satisfied with the editing and testing at that point. I anticipate 2-4 weeks of beta testing, so the progress made in next few months will be the real determining factor in the release date. Before long, I will be putting together a list of beta testers. There is a possibility that we may ask for additional testers, so for those interested in helping us work the kinks out of the project, keep your eyes open for that.

While much remains to be done, I, for one, am going to take a moment to enjoy reaching another milestone. Thanks for your continued support! ^_^

  1. Hey throughhim413 can I help with beta testing?
    I have a dsi and acekard2i with AKAIO 1.41. 8GB microSD

  2. Good luck, dude! I appreciate the work you’re putting in!

P.S: How many skits exist in Innocence?

  3. how r u gonna choose which people r beta testing?

  4. @Latisteel: I’m not totally sure that I will be choosing anyone for beta testing at this point. I simply stated that it’s a possibility. I also am not yet sure how I’ll choose beta testers. There will most likely be an application page that requests the same information from everyone and I’ll decide based on those applications.

    @DuskShark: 87 of ToI’s 471 skits are currently translated.

  5. o ok its because i rly want to help with this game and beta testing is pretty much all i can do for now and ive been waiting for the release ever since the beggining and i rly want an early copy :P

PS: r the beta testers gonna be in the credits?
PSPS: wat programs do u use to translate this game?

  6. I’d be happy to lend my gaming skills to the testing of this game ^_^

  7. holy cow, 471 skits… that’s so much! lol. Can’t wait for the release though. it felt kinda weird playing the original TOI last year without knowing what exactly i was doing. GOOD LUCK!!! =D

  8. Awesome. Have you ever looking into doing any of the KH Final Mixes, or are you planning on staying with only the Tales games?

  9. Personally, I would love it if you released the beta to everyone and just put up the final after. But I can understand you want everyone’s first impression to be the final finished copy.

Good luck on your work! I’m looking forward to the completion!

  10. Whoa damn, that’s a lot of skits! That’s the usual number of skits?

  11. It’s not that I intend to stick to just Tales, but why do people keep asking about Kingdom Hearts? I personally can’t stand hearing Disney characters speak Japanese, so I don’t have any intention of working on them. The localizations for the series are great and the additional content doesn’t really merit a full-on project in my mind.

The beta will remain a closed beta.

@DuskShark: Tales of Phantasia had something like 250 if I remember right. I believe Tales of Hearts had a fairly low number (under 100 if memory serves). It really depends on the game, but I think ToI is probably above average for the series.

  12. I can see the end. It is finally near

  13. That’s indeed a huge number of skits, but… wow, is this the final stage?
Can’t believe it, I mean, I knew that this was coming soon but damn, it still makes me feel… proud to have been with you since the announcement of this project (even if I never helped anyway, not like I could be of any help… haha)
Nothing else to say, than to wish for the best, and even if this is the last stage, don’t overdo it.

  14. so whos gonna be in closed beta?
(I rly wanna be in closed beta plz XD)

  15. i wanna be on it too !

  16. Need testers? I got your back.

  17. Sorry for the double comment but i also have alot of experience in Tales games.

I’ve played : Tales of Phantasia, Eternia, Destiny, Symphonia,Vesperia, and Legendia.

  18. Nice. These guys really know how to boost our spirits. Hehe. Keep up the good work guys. ,V,,

  19. Good to hear it’s getting closer and closer to completion.

I can imagine translating almost 400 more skits isn’t going to be a lot of fun for you, but just take your time and don’t burn yourself out.

Stepping in the bad thoughts for a moment, what will you do if a beta tester leaks the patch? Will you cancel releasing the public patch? Too many times have I seen beta testers leak things all over the internet as soon as they get their hands on them.

If you are going to do beta testing, really consider who you’re going to use. (Maybe only friends and family?)

  20. Adding another comment, a thought that came in to my head.

If you do choose beta testers, you could possibly make a patch for each person.

So for example, you could edit some graphic or text string to include the name of the person.

(This patch was made for throughhim413.)

Or something like that. Then, if somone leaked the patch, you could see who it was that leaked it.

  21. Omega-Weapon has a valid point there it is a way to sorta stop it from leaking or at least find the leak easily… Though I think that would be kinda hard to accomplish. Depending on the amount of testers I can see it taking a certain amount of time getting that done.

  22. awesome. keep it up!

  23. @Omega-Weapon: Yeah, I’ve been thinking about the same kinds of things. If I do choose any testers that I don’t know personally, it’ll be after much review. I said it once before, but if people have to beg for a beta, they’re probably not they kind of person to be chosen for a beta patch. I had been considering the same kinds of things for protecting it and I came up with the same idea of personalized patches. In any case, I like to think I’m not stupid, so hopefully it’ll all go off without a hitch with a little planning.

  24. Finally…SO NEAR YET, SO FAR….^^

  25. Congratulations !

I’m french but I’m waiting for your patch ! I hope the best for you, you’re making something HUGE.

    Cheers,
    Isaac Conrad.

  26. Thank you, kind sir, for the work you’ve done for us Tales fans. And eyes shall be kept open.

  27. I’ve been waiting for this translation patiently for months never posting or commenting to avoid pestering the translation team, but since I’ve finally decided to comment I’d like to thank you for working so hard on the translation and making it available to everyone. I hope you continue to have fun translating the game and don’t overdo it.

  28. So close… So close the taste fills my mouth already… A new Tales title is practically in my hands… I’m drooling…

I’d like to be among the testers but I’ve waited this long and I can wait a few more months… I’m still a bit antsy about it because of strong desires to play it that i had from the time of it’s announcement and the feelings of animousity I had and still have towards Bandai-Namco for refusing the US an official Tales of Innocense and Tales of the Tempest release…

I’m over Tales of the Tempest since from what I played the battlesystem is borderling Legendia crap…

  29. I never commented on any of your updates or anything, but I have been keeping a close eye on the project, and I want to thank you for taking your own time on it. Just want to say good luck and hope you finish on time d(^.^)GOOD LUCK!!!

  30. Wow! I’d love to help out with beta testing. Been waiting forever for this patch.

  31. wow, we all have such ugly avatars!

Anyway, I suggest you only take people you know in real life for a beta test, I dont want your patch to be leaks after you put all that effort in this project.

And… what is a Skits XD

  32. Hum, if I could I would love to help, but I can’t. I can only say that I, like most people here, am SO looking forward for this release… and all I can do is say: hang in there, take the time you need, and, especially, thank you. Thank you so much.

    Sahgo

  33. :( aww i rly wanted to be in beta

  34. u already selected the people?

  35. hi im new i would love to help in the beta testing if you need more people its great what your doing i hope you can finish it soon you guys are doing an amazing job really!

  36. Encouragement words! Exclamation points!! INTERROBANG‽!?

  37. hi can i help?? i have a dsi with super card ds one i and a 32gb micro sd card. send me a email if you r interested. i also know something abou translation so i can help a little bit on the beta tests

  38. SWEET. Dude, just continue to do your thing, i will be here patiently waiting.

Also, to those offering ‘help’, please stop, if he needs specific peoples, he will ask for them, even if you mean it, your offers look really insincere.

  39. lorddarkflare >> Totally agree with you

  40. wow I am really looking forward to this. I hope you’ve celebrated this milestone with a good break. As long as this project gets finished at all I don’t think anyone can complain too much. Good luck on those skits!

  41. Thanks so much for all your hard work! You guys are just great. :) Like everyone else, I’m really looking forward to the final. <3s

  42. Thanks for the update, throughhim. Glad to hear that you’re getting close to the end. Good luck with the beta testing; I hope everything goes smoothly. Something tells me that you won’t have a shortage of beta testers to choose from.

  43. Internets to you, man.

Being the pessimistic guy I am, I usually condemn most kind of translation projects for games to drop at some point. I expected no more from this project… and I sure got told.

Great effort in making it this far, you have my full support till the end!

  44. Well progression is progression. I’ve been watching this translation since well…you first announced it:P Havn’t bothered to comment yet tho, but i thought it was time to thank you for all your hard work and dedication. Looking forward to the release and got some free time in case you need a beta tester :P

  45. Reading your post here and at gbatemp sure made me feel glad. Does it mean that you’re feeling better? I really like seeing someone doing something that they love and committed to it. And the great effort you have shown for the past few months is surely amazing. Just make sure that this is the one thing that you like doing and you can be happy of the result. Don’t forget that the process should be fun too, or else, it would be meaningless. Kudos to you and your team, throughhim, and have fun doing it :)

  46. So close…no matter how far !!
Some people just want to rely on laziness instead of following their dreams, you accomplish them by hard work and discipline (even though the object of work is the game of your dreams). I really appreciate that, we could never be thankful enough for all these stuff… but: THANK YOU!

  47. Hi, i Want to be a Beta Tester, i’m from Mexico, and will be an honor to test it, sorry if my English is not perfect, I’m not a native.

  48. Purely out of interest, but is it just DS games you’re interested in/capable of hacking? Because there’s a lot of PSP games out there that could use some translating, both within the Tales series and without. I don’t think there’s been too many attempts at fantranslation in PSP circles either, so any and all releases would certainly get your name out there. Just a suggestion.

  49. If you extend beta testing to people you don’t know personally, I would like to help you.
I’ve played through a bunch of Tales games, if that is a prerequisite.
