At long last, a new video has arrived!
Kingcom and I are both getting back into full gear on Tales of Innocence and to celebrate the event, we decided to post up a new video. This video shows off most of the menu content and layout. You’ve seen it before in screenshots, but we hope that this video will really give you a sense of what you can expect when you play our patch. As always, please keep in mind that the translations seen here are not yet final. I’m fully aware that there are still some awkward descriptions and names in there. I’m totally open to suggestions and corrections, so don’t hesitate to share your thoughts.
Big thanks to everyone who has continued to support us and cheer us on! This project is bigger (and longer!) than I ever expected it to be, but thanks to everyone out there, it has never stopped being fun. We’re working our hardest to make sure that we can provide you with the absolute best experience possible as soon as we can. Until next time!
I’ve been using Luca for a long time. Ruca is a bad romanization. Read other posts if you want details.
It could be either Glaive or Grave. They are pronounced the same way in Japanese.
wow, kool the game looks so kool right now
So is this patch being released in many different versions each time something new is added or is it just one big patch that wont be released for awhile?
Nothing will be released until it’s complete.
@Wesz
I was just curious. Oh well.
Dang, this looks amazing! I can’t wait to play ^^ And its great to hear that you guys are still having fun working on this. Theres nothing worse than when a fun project you start turns into a horrible chore.
I can NOT wait for this to come out. Knowing that a group that obviously cares for a project like this is very reassuring and should make it all the sweeter when it’s finally released. I am psyched.
Oh man! I can’t freaking wait! Each post gets me more and more pumped.
Awesomeeeeeeeeeeeee *o*
you guys are awesome and i have nothing but the utmost respect for you all for doing this. amazing work and keep it up!
Looks really, really good. Thanks for all the hard work you put into it.
I’m starting to run low on synonyms to describe what an awesome job you are doing.
Just remeber these, ok?
Apple Gel: Restore 30% of HP
Orange Gel: Restore 30% of MP
Lemon Gel: Restore 60% of HP
Pinnaple Gel: Restore 60% of MP
I actually like “Friends Forever”. It’s corny, but fun. It’s the kind of corny you can expect from a Tales game
Although not in the original Innocence game I (and many others) prefer the %’s at the gel discription. It makes life easier
.
Also many thanks for translating this most promising game. And of course I’m really curious and looking forward to it. So again many thanks
Melange Gel: Restore 30% of HP and MP
Miracle Gel: Restore 60% of HP and MP
Special Gel: Restore 100% of HP and MP (i dunno’ if Innocence has Special Gels, but Vesperia has them)
I want to apologize for my previous outbursts. I had gotten so impaitient, but knowing how hard you’re working and how far you’ve come I’m grateful you decided to do this for those of us who are hellbent on playing Innocence.
i know this might make things a little more difficult for you but why not provide slightly different versions of the final patch.
Make one where the names are as you want them and make the other where the names are as other people here want them?
Apologies for double-posting
I’ve been dying to play this game but don’t know any Japanese – I’m thrilled to find this site and from the video the patch will be incredible. You guys have my pre-emptive eternal thanks already for doing this!
@Bob: We will be providing a single version of the patch. I would never be so bold as to presume that people who don’t trust me to translate a single name would trust me to translate the whole game.
There are only so many times you’ve been told how awesome you are, as well as keeping up the good work, that they all sound the same.
So, this video is great, aside from minor details like the battle priorities stated in previous posts. Keep up the good work!
looks awesome! cant wait to play that shit!
Sorry for me bad english.
I am an italian boy and i dont write very well in english.
But however thank you for the video, and thank you for the amazing patch.
For me fortune i can read the english^^
But unfortunately i cant write very well.
Thank again i can’t wait to play ToI i love this story.
And for the frist time the main protagonist has my same name Luca^^
Other way around. Luca is a bad romanization. Ruca is the correct one. And using Glaive would be a bad choice. Even going with localizations most use Grave (GBA Phantasia doesn’t but it’s bad translations all around)
FireG, you’ve got it all wrong. Luca isn’t a romanization at all, it’s the name that the Japanese kana clearly indicate. A technically correct romanization would be Ruka. Ruca is made up. It’s a pretty clear case of R/L swapping and just another example in Namdai’s long history of providing poor English versions of the names.
Also, the localized option uses Grave. Translated and Romanized use Glaive because I believe it to be a more reasonable interpretation of the name. Feel free not to use those options if Glaive bothers you that much. Feel free not to use the patch if Luca bothers you that much. I will not consider it my loss at all.
I do not know why people come here and insist that “x” is a bad translation. Suggestions are welcome, the translators have shown us that, but c’mon, you guys should at least bring it up in a more polite way. And as far as I know, the Ruca/Luca stuff was settled a long time ago.
fireG shut up if you dont know what you are talkin about ! and also shut up if you arent doing a translation patch for people. As throughhim said if you dont like it dont use it at all. The naming has been settled long ago and no one but you are still talking about it. If you want to argue about what thoughim and the team are doing make sure you know what you are arguing about first, or even better if you are making a patch of your own.
I believe all of you people here are getting to be far too arrogant. Throughhim is doing this translation patch for free as a service to us fans out of his own free time. To whine about one simple name is just stupid. If you don’t like it that much, don’t bother complaining, just don’t use the translation. It is immensely rude to criticize this work in such a manner, throughhim isn’t your employee or student so don’t treat him as such. Just be grateful the game is going to be translated into English at all. And come on, Luca is an actual name; it’s pretty common for an Italian. What kind of name is Ruca? A direct translation is just sloppy, romanization is key.
How is Ruca a bad rominazation? (Not a purists jusk asking).
I know this don’t have nothing to do with the topic but where or how do you get all recipes? i’m missing some of those for the “AKA tasty tasty”
@DuskShark:
If I got it correctly some time ago it’s something like this:
Because kana ル is known as ru, and kana カ is known as ka… So ルカ should turn to Ruka if romanized (if it was originally japanese).
Anyway, the thing is that in Japan occidental names are written with kanas, and Luca, Lucas, Ruca, Ruka (and maybe some others, I’m out of imagination) turn to ルカ when written with kanas.
In this particular case, people in ルカ’s hometown has Italian names, so it seems that ルカ’s name is of Italian origin. With that in mind, ルカ’s name should actually be Luca (Italian) written in katakana.
@swa’s explanation to Duskshark…
Hmm, sounds right to me. Lol, even after a year of College level Japanese, I never fully got katakana right. When it came up to one of the 2-3 characters I didnt know, I guessed going for the 1/3 chance of gettin right, hah.
And AZT Crew! Keep up the great work!!!
The video doesn’t show up for me :s
@swa and SuperDodgeBall
It makes sense now. Thx.
Hm, I know this is kinda out of topic here… but, isn’t katakana not only used for occidental languages, but rather, all non-Japanese languages?
Damn, this is looking to be a real good translation. About the gel/gumi situation, I’ve played enough tales games to know what different gels/gumi’s do already.
Keep up the good work, dude.
Wow, very nice! Can’t wait for the patch to come out so I can finally play this! Thanks for all the good work guys!!
i cant wait
I’m sorry, but for the sake of my sanity, I have to say this:
This is truly a work of art. I would like to thank you, throughhim413, from the bottom of my heart, for dedicating yourself to something so selfless. Seriously. This is awesome.
Uhh, not to criticise your works and all but, will you be doing a FULL translation? Like, including the main story line and/or the side quests and stuff?? Just wondering ‘coz many other translator stopped work after the menu was done.
I do hope that you do a full translation though. Such translations are extremely scarce for tales games…
-Rei
We’ve already shown tons of screenshots for non-menu text. If this were a menu only translation it would have been done ages ago.
I’m ecstatic that you’re providing a full-translation version… Let me know if you want to start using voice-overs too, I’ll volunteer for Luca or Spada…
I’m pretty sure that wouldn’t be feasible, what with how fandubs typically turn out.
But you know, I’d be willing to help as well if that were the case.
It’s great that the translation is progressing. Though ToP was the only game of Tales series which I finished, I’m looking forward to play one more.
Thanks all of you for ToI translation.
Oh alright then! Thanks in advance for the awesome patch that you’ll be putting up soon! I look forward to more translations here!!
PS: other than ToP, are there any other ds/psp tales games that are/have been translated completely?(like ToR for instance)
“PS: other than ToP, are there any other ds/psp tales games that are/have been translated completely?(like ToR for instance)”
No, unfortunately.
I see, well then thanks anyways.
Good luck with the translations! Rare to see fully translated patches now-a-days… =/
@throughhim:
i wonder if you guys are interested in making translation for one of Tales series in PSP after you guys finish Innocence and Destiny? Destiny Remake and Rebirth are great games that no one play because of the language
A translation is very unlikely without a good debugger, which itself relies on the existence of an emulator. There are good debuggers for PSX and especially NDS, and at least a decent emulator for PS2. But there’s nothing for PSP.
Nice work!
Im waiting more news ^^
Nice work, but can you just do like small patches cause if people play this game and finish , then your translation gets done is there a point in playing it again??
You should check this out, it might help you with the dialogue translation. http://www.gamefaqs.com/portable/ds/file/942204/54812
