Merry Christmas, or at least by Greenwich Mean Time! It just wouldn’t be Christmas on the blog without an update! I know what you’re thinking -- last year was better. Well, we may not have a release for you this year, but we do have a preview video!
This video shows off the first several minutes of Tales of Innocence! Don’t worry, there are no spoilers, this is the beginning of the game.
A few things to note -- the audio sounds like crap and the frame rate is a bit choppy. That’s not anything related to the patch, both are byproducts of Kingcom recording from an emulator on his older computer. That aside, we hope that you enjoy the video.
And of course, let’s not forget that it’s the 1 year anniversary of Tales of Phantasia’s patch! Thanks for supporting us in this past year and we hope that everyone will continue follow us in the new year! ^_^
WOW
nice….
i have 1 question btw… in this video you hear the japanese voices when they talk… will that be in the game too ?
haha, it’s turned out incredibly awesome.
I was wondering if you can remove the japanese voices? It doesn’t fit in with the text and it would (personally throw me off).
I’d put the volume down but I like hearing the music.
If you can maybe make two versions (one with jap voices and one w/o), that’d be awesome
That is, if you can
Also, keep up the good work!
Depending how difficult it is to remove voices, it might not seem feasible. Although I can see where you guys are coming from. I take it you don’t watch subbed anime if reading english text while listening to japanese audio bothers you.
Sorry, but I see no reason to do that. We will be releasing one patch which will contain the original Japanese voices.
I would prefer to keep the voice acting. I think that without it, it would detract from the game. I have never found Japanese voice acting distracting. If you do remove it (for some insane reason, such as making people happy…) could you do what Kevin suggests. And Merry Christmas from Me! (an Englishman *shock*)
Personally I enjoy having the Japanese voices in the game, but that may be due to a lot of exposure of the language, and I can understand the basics without having to read translations.
It looks great keep up the good work, and have a Merry Christmas
Yeah I agree with Truth101. If you really don’t want the japanese voices, it might be possible to replace them with blank audio dialog. If you remove them completely the game might not appreciate that
. If you ask the people at gbatemp they MIGHT help you(or somewhere else similar). Still usually in Tales games there is a setting to turn the voices down/off. But I haven’t played ToI yet.
It’s looking really nice so far. Keep up the good work, guys!
wow, a job well done. REALLY looking forward to the patch release. merry christmas and happy holiday guys
Great job guys! I’m looking forward to your patch. I’ve been monitoring your project for a long time. -^_^- Thanks for doing the translation and Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas, and as usual thanks a lot for all your efforts! ^^
dude love your works just awesome can not wait for the patch, and thx for updating us
Merry christmas and a happy new year [why not
]. I know people who always prefer the japanese voice acting, there are games wich are modified to keep the japanese voices although the games are American or European.
I like the japanese voices.
and please do not remove the japanese voice, it’s perfect the way it is, and would bother some people to actually take some interest in another languages, you have done enough just leave it as it is in the video
Lookin’ good so far! I lul at bad audio quality. Happy New Year.
@Kevin: Every single Tales game I have played had the option to turn off the voices (part of why I’ve been able to play them). And I can’t imagine how you wouldn’t want it. Voice acting–good voice acting, rather–brings so much life and depth to the characters.
Whoa looks great, thanks for the effort guys. It’s true that NO$GBA isn’t perfect yet but it’s still the best we got. Most of us will be playing it on the NDS though and taking video of a PC is just easier.
And the discusion about the japanese voices is a silly one, ofcourse they won’t be removed, they’re part of the game they didn’t just put them in themselves. The only time the MIGHT be changed is when someone dubs over them, like the topping project based on Dejap’s translation. That’s the only time I’ve seen someone change the original japanese voices
Nice job. The preview looked great.
Kingcom, leg ma nen Zahn zu
Btw nice work
Wow that was cool I finally understand a little bit of the story
That’s so great! I hope you can finish it next year.
Nice work! I’m hoping for the patch to be released soon !!
Marry Christmas for now~!!
I love it! The Japanese voices are so cute and understandable. Merry Christmas =3
look at the clip, I think it is not the old computer of Kingcom that caused the problem. It’s most likely that Kingcom configured his no$gba emulator in an incorrect way. He should check on emulator setup, 3D renderer section and select nocash instead of opengl or none.
That was great!
Can’t wait for the patch.
pokemon89, I can assure you that I know how to configure the emulator propperly. After all, I’ve been using it for debugging games for years now.
Ouch. That’s gotta hurt, pokemon. Anyway, commenting again to boost morale. .
It looks awesome!! ^.^
I think I know those voices from somewhere tho… Hum…
Can’t wait till you finish it!
Keep up the good work, and merry christmas and a happy new year! =D
Wow guys, very nice work. I just today started to play this game, but maybe i will wait for this patch. Two things though: 1)-Are the translations direct, cuz if not, his speech was pretty epic and kudos to the translator. 2)- Should it not be ‘census soldiers’ not ‘census soldier’, minor nitpick i know.
The translations aren’t completely direct. All lines attempt to capture the feeling of the original Japanese, but not it’s not necessarily a word-for-word translation. I’m trying to keep it interesting without making any significant changes. We can’t redub the game, so to some degree, we want to avoid unnecessary alterations.
The Census Soldiers thing is something that we are aware of but just haven’t fixed yet. In Japanese, the same name is used for both singular and plural soldiers, so we need to . We plan to, just didn’t in time for this video. Sorry!
good video ! can’t wait to play the game
Guys keep up the good work, you’re doing an excellent job, I honestly could say that this looks like an official translation rather than the hobby of two people :p
Sorry? Why say sorry, you are doing us a favor, and doing a damned good job at it. Heck, it still boggles the mind that it is only 2 people that are doing this. Keep up the good work.
Awesome
WOW! The translation is so perfect, I thought this was an official English release!
I hope you can release it by next year! I’ve always wanted to play this game!
Good luck to you two!
Just a question: Will the Japanese saved game file compatible with the translated game? I played about a quarter of the game already, and I would be shame if I need restart playing again.
Anyways, you guys have done an awesome work. I’m amazed you can manage to pull off the double-byte Japanese words into a single-byte Alphanumeric rather than the double-byte Alphanumeric (shown as a big letter, which limits the words to be translated)
wow that’s cool… for myself, i prefer japanese voice thats we can feel the tales of Innocence.
ahh to hell with the project for know … enjoy your christmas time ! And Happy new year guys : ) Great work anyway !
Oh. Hell. Yeah! Now I’m more excited to play it than ever…
Cheese soup for breakfast? Bleagh XD
Thanks so much for doing this!I can’t wait for the patch
Yeah, I don’t know why Luca would want cheese soup for breakfast. Kind of a weird kid.
Nice video \o/
Could you make a video with more gameplay (menus) and skits scenes? u.u
Showing menus wouldn’t really be that exciting and it’s hard to show battle stuff from an emulator. If we do make another video, I’m sure we can include a skit or two.
why? Is the Emulator not able to emulate battle scences? or is your CPU not fast enough for it?
No, the emulator can do battles, it just isn’t full speed on Kingcom’s PC, so it’s not the kind of thing that we would want to show in a video.
Don’t worry. Battle is battle, be it japanese or english. We can wait till release to see that. And what happened to your Crono avatar?
I changed the e-mail that was linked to the blog. I think I fixed it, so hopefully it’ll come back now. Thanks for telling me, it just doesn’t feel like me without Crono.
emm… this is far from perfect emulation i’ve been hearing about? will it turn out to be unplayable?
That depends on your computer. My computer can easily run it at full speed, but I also have a C2D-2GHz, which is veiguely recent. If you have an old computer (I’m estimating any slower than around P4-2.6GHz or PM-1.8GHz, or whatever the AMD equivalents are), it may run slow. I’m not sure what KC has, but keep in mind his computer also had to record the video on top of emulating, so that slowed it down further.
Looks awesome so far. Minor nitpick, but at about 3:20, I believe “mortal’s” should be “mortals’.”
